CHARLTON BROWN Announces The Anne McDonald Scholarship Program
DANANG, VIETNAM
CHARLTON BROWN'S Graduation Night marked a night of celebration for all of the graduating students who completed courses throughout 2008. We also shared our 2009 news on the latest expansion of our programs at CHARLTON BROWN by inviting The Hon. John Mickel MP to officially launch the Anne McDonald Scholarship Program, a Student Mobility and International Placement Program with St. Paul's Orphanage in Danang, Vietnam.
What is Outward Mobility?
Outbound mobility (OM) can be described as any form of international mobility which takes place within a student's program of study. The length of absence can range from a short trip to the full duration of a course of study. In addition to study, mobility can include a period in a workplace or other non-education environment.
Why is CHARLTON BROWN interested in this?
Health and Community Services are one of Australia's (if not the worlds) fastest growing industry sectors. Our graduates are working in a global industry with a more diversified client base than ever before and increasingly there are also more opportunities to work internationally.
CHARTLON BROWN, through its roots as a nanny agency has always been involved in global placements for its graduates. CHARLTON BROWN alumni provide care and support for families and individuals around the world.
Given the increased focus on inbound international students for the college it is timely that we now consider how to offer opportunities for our domestic students to also have an international experience. In the university sector, there are a number of successful programs for outward mobility for those in the health and community services sector, CHARLTON BROWN wants to be the first Vocational Education and Training provider to offer this same opportunity.
Vietnam Program Launch
From 2009 students enrolled at CHARLTON BROWN will be eligible to include an international practicum as part of their Cert III to Advanced Diploma studies in aged care, communities' services, children's services and disabilities services. The students will travel to Danang, Vietnam to contribute to the work of the St Paul's Orphanage in Danang. The program will be funded by students with further support and funding also be investigated through other sources. A registered trainer from CB will travel with the students and graduates to ensure the quality of the program and to work with students to support them in the new learning environment.
The program is currently being promoted to students and graduates and whilst it is our intention to send at least 20 students in the first year CHARLTON BROWN expects the program to grow annually.
CHARLTON BROWN actively supports its students to undertake an international experience as we know what a difference this makes to their skills, cross cultural awareness and general employability skills. We also know what a difference this can make on the lives of those we are helping in our own small way.
This program has developed in recognition of Anne Mcdonald, a compassionate early childhood educator who worked with CHARLTON BROWn and shared her wisdom and with many students. Anne previously worked at the Brisbane Nanny School and the Early Childhood Training College. Anne's passing has left us sad, but her influence on the lives of children and students will live on through this program.
